It can only accomplish its goals and remain a non-profit event by engaging each family to complete family service credits for each student who will attend.
TxCHP -
Prom Purpose Statement
The Texas Christian Homeschool Prom mission is to allow high school age homeschooled students and their guests to experience a wonderful evening that will be treasured for a lifetime, and to provide the opportunity to acquire proper social graces in a safe and supportive environment.
The TxCHP Board of Directors is not like most non-profit boards. Each member is actively engaged in the planning process for the annual prom. The board meets monthly in person, plus multiple extra times during prom season (from the opening of ticket sales in January until prom is held in the late spring).
This is a volunteer group. All Board members and executives in the organization serve all year long to accomplish the goals of the board and to produce the incredible prom each year.
We also engage a mission circle and general circle of leaders to oversee individual areas of prom. Circle leaders and the captains, skippers, and team members who serve with them are selected via interview process and all serve in volunteer positions during prom after participating in the mandatory prom staff training sessions.
These positions are all non-paid roles within TxCHP.
Prom Season involves the following activities and events:
* Parent Information Meetings - especially helpful for new families wanting to get the full experience
* Ticket Sales - These are usually held in early- to mid-January and sales happen quickly. When the ticket sales date is announced, plan ahead and be ready to make your purchase then so you don't miss your chance to get the tickets or vouchers that you need
* Pre-Prom Dance Lessons - held in 2 locations in the DFW area to accommodate as many of our students as possible, while learning social graces, dance etiquette, and dance steps that can be applied to a variety of different song styles and rhythms
* Staff Training - all Night of Prom staff members will have a phone or in-person interview with a team lead or team captain, then they are required to attend the NOP Staff Training meeting a few weeks before prom. Those who do not attend training will be replaced.
More prom season events and activities:
* Workdays / Worknights - held at various locations in the metroplex to do construction, crafting, organizing, inventory, etc., in preparation for prom weekend.
* Prom Weekend - We should really call it prom week! Beginning mid-week, volunteers load trailers and trucks with the decor and supplies, meet at the venue to unload the same trailers and trucks, then begin the auspicious task of making this themed event come to life in the 90,000 square foot Frisco Convention Center.
Due to space limitation rules during the pandemic, we added a second night to allow for greater social distancing. After the pandemic rules ended, we found that so many more families were participating, that we had outgrown having one night of prom, so it is now a two-night event, with students selecting which night they wish to attend at the time of ticket purchase.
After decorating teams have descended on the venue all day Friday, the Friday night prom happens, then volunteers reset the ballroom and fluff decorations on Saturday morning in preparation for the Saturday night prom.
Immediately following Saturday night prom, the teardown team comes in to repack everything and load the trailers and trucks again to take the decor and supplies back to storage. Unloading happens a couple of days later at the storage place. Whew! 😉
