Open Tasks

Open Tasks List will be available December 15th, 2024.

  • Open Tasks are sign up and show up options that you select from a list based on availability.
  • After you purchase a Student Ticket or redeem a Companion Voucher, go to your Family Dashboard and select “View Family Service Options.” At the bottom of the next page will be a link to the list of Open Tasks.
  • Read descriptions, select a task that works for your ability and schedule, then show up at the appropriate time and place.
  • Once you sign up, the task is yours. You will receive a confirmation email after your selection is made, and an email reminder a few days before the task is to take place; no further communication needed.
  • Sign up quickly for the task you want; once all positions are filled for a particular task, it will close.
  • You may also remove yourself from a task you previously selected.
  • We recommend that even if your preference is an Invitation-Only Assignment, you still select an Open Task. There are always more people who would like a Night of Prom position than there are positions available. If you are subsequently contacted for an interview and accept an Invitation-Only Assignment, you can remove yourself from any Open Tasks you have previously selected.

Invitation-Only Tasks

Prom Callers essentially “go down the list” of interested parents, sorted randomly. They explain the Invitation-Only Assignment requirements and answer questions. Parents then have the opportunity to decide if this position is really something they are able and willing to do, and if so, they are invited to accept the Special Assignment.

Once the positions are filled, the callers stop calling. If you indicated you were interested in one of these positions but were not contacted, please assume all the available positions have been filled.

If a family accepts an Invitation-Only Assignment but has already selected a task from the list of Task Choices, they may choose to remove themselves from their original Task Choice if the Invitation-Only Assignment will satisfy their Adult Participation Requirement.

Contribution in Lieu of Serving

Working on prom projects together helps to develop a sense of community, and many parents are amazed when they see all that goes into “creating” prom. However, we understand it is not always possible for adults to physically participate, so the Contribution in Lieu of Serving options been made available, and will satisfy the Family Service requirement.

The Financial Contribution Option is found on the Shop Prom / Store page. Once your transaction is complete, you will be automatically signed up for the Contribution Task Choice. Each contribution satisfies the Family Service requirement for one student.

Timeline for Contributions:

    • $150 per student thru Tuesday, March 25, 2025
    • $200 per student Wednesday, March 26 thru Friday, April 11, 2025
    • $250 for any contributions made after April 11, 2025

Extenuating Circumstances

If you believe your family has an extenuating circumstance that would preclude your family from being able to serve this year, please email exemptions@txchp.com. A TxCHP representative will be in touch to discuss options.
